The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, in partnership with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS), have launched a project to produce a documentary on “Solosmastana,” showcasing the 16 sacred religious sites of Sri Lanka. The goal is to promote Buddhist religious tourism between the two nations by highlighting their shared cultural and spiritual heritage.
To kick off the project, a seven-member team from Thai PBS and TAT visited Sri Lanka between 11 and 21 November to capture footage of these revered locations. The initiative received significant support from Thai Airways, which provided airfare for the media team, and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, which assisted with travel arrangements and coordinated visits to the religious sites. Walkers Tours Sri Lanka took care of the team’s accommodation and local logistics during their stay.
Before their departure to Sri Lanka, Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, welcomed the crew from Thai PBS and TAT at the Embassy. In their meeting, Ambassador Edirisinghe emphasized the importance of the documentary in deepening the cultural and religious ties between Sri Lanka and Thailand. She expressed hope that the film would promote Buddhist tourism by showcasing the spiritual and historical connections between the two nations. The Ambassador also thanked Thai PBS, TAT, and all other partners for their contributions to the project and wished the team success in their mission.
The completed documentary is set to air on Thai PBS next year, offering Thai audiences an inspiring look into Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage and further strengthening the enduring bond between the two countries.
